You might not know this, but I do quite a few commission paintings per year. You also might not know what a commissioned painting even means!
Let me make it simple. A commission is the hiring and payment for the creation of a piece, often on behalf of another. Artwork may be commissioned by private individuals, by the government or businesses.
A Commissioned painting is a bit like helping the artist paint the picture. You give me the images of what you want in your piece and I will create your vision.
Typically someone will commission me to paint their home with notes of personal interest such as their dog in the foreground or a special tree that is important to them. Sometimes it's a vacation or childhood home that is special to them. They will sometimes give me swatches of fabric or wall color to blend well with the painting. Often they will ask me to take a picture of their house and do my magic and nothing more is needed. There is an element of trust, but if you know my work chances are you will like the outcome. Since the early 90s I have done hundreds of commissioned paintings and have not had a complaint or regret from party that commissioned the work. Most of the time it has been tears of joy, hugs and happiness upon viewing the awaited painting.
Some ideas for a commissioned paintings are meant for an anniversary, a wedding gift, birthday or a special memory for the family to treasure. Sometimes it's just a certain size painting to fill a space in their home that they commissioned me to do a painting for that wall. Other times it's a painting that I have done that has been sold and they just want that look or the same subject and colors. I have also done copies of old world masterpieces from artists of centuries ago. Did I mention portraits of family pets and children? So really your imagination is the only limit!
